Compare evidence, not labels
“Which Ecuador visa is easiest?” is usually the wrong first question. A better question is: which route fits the evidence I can document consistently?
The current route procedures control. Use the Visa Comparison tool, then verify the live instructions for the Retirement Visa, Rentista Visa, and Professional Visa.
Start with the official Ecuador visa procedure directory when a route decision could change the documents you order. The figures, definitions, and accepted evidence can change; comparison is useful only when it points back to the live source.
Retirement Visa
This route centers on qualifying pension or retirement income. The practical review is whether the source is official, recurring, identifiable, and documented in the format the current procedure accepts. Household and dependent records can add their own work.
The route may be a natural fit for a retiree with clean pension evidence. It is not automatically stronger because the applicant is over a certain age or because a bank balance is large.
Rentista Visa
Rentista evidence focuses on passive or other qualifying income rather than a pension record. Rental, investment, annuity, or similar sources may raise different questions about continuity, ownership, contracts, payment history, and the current category definition.
Do not assume that rent or investment income fits the category without checking the route's current accepted evidence.
Professional Visa
Professional evidence centers on the qualifying degree and the academic recognition or registration path, in addition to identity, background, and income records. It may be a strong fit for an applicant whose credential and source of livelihood are both easy to explain.
It may be a poor starting point when the degree field, institution, modality, or SENESCYT record is still uncertain. Compare it before paying for authentication and translation.
A simple comparison matrix
| Route | Main question | Common planning risk |
|---|---|---|
| Retirement | Can the recurring pension source be proven? | A benefit summary does not answer every current document requirement. |
| Rentista | Can the qualifying passive-income source be explained? | A balance or asset does not automatically prove recurring income. |
| Professional | Can the credential and livelihood evidence support the route? | A diploma does not automatically resolve SENESCYT questions. |
When two routes look plausible, compare document readiness, dependent impact, authentication steps, timeline, and what happens if one record is delayed. The better route is the one with fewer unresolved assumptions.
Revisit the comparison if your facts change. A new job, a pension award, a dependent, a move in travel dates, or a degree-recognition question can change which route has the clearest evidence. Treat the matrix as a decision record, not a permanent label.
If you want a written comparison from your own records, start with the $100 Document Review. It is a decision checkpoint before broader support is discussed.
