Hi, I'm Chip Moreno
American expat. Ecuador permanent resident.
Founder of EcuaPass, CuencaExpat, and FileAbroad.
I moved to Ecuador in 2024 and built my life here from scratch. Now I help other Americans do the same — starting with the visa.

My Story
From 2017 to 2023, I worked in the mortgage industry in the United States. Six years at banks, broker shops, and independent lenders — helping people navigate one of the most document-heavy processes most Americans ever face: buying a home.
That experience taught me something I didn't expect to use abroad: complicated paperwork doesn't have to be overwhelming when someone who knows the system is guiding you through it.
In 2024, I moved to Ecuador. First to explore, then to stay. I applied for my Professional Visa, registered my computer science degree with SENESCYT, and eventually obtained permanent residency. Along the way, I learned Ecuador's immigration system from the inside — what the official requirements say, what immigration officers actually look for, and where most applicants get stuck.
Friends started asking for help. Then friends of friends. Then strangers who found me on Facebook and asked if I could walk them through the process. I realized my background in financial services — where one wrong form can derail an entire application — made me unusually good at this.
That's how EcuaPass was born.
Today, Chip Moreno, founder of EcuaPass, runs a small ecosystem of services for American expats in Ecuador. EcuaPass handles visa services. CuencaExpat.com and ExpatEcuador.com cover local and national expat news (with two Facebook groups totaling 8,500+ members). FileAbroad.com launches in March 2026 for expat tax filing.
I'm not an agency. I'm one person who built this from a desk in Cuenca because I kept seeing people overpay lawyers, waste months on avoidable mistakes, or give up entirely on a process that's actually manageable with the right guidance.

Why Work With Me
You talk to me directly.
No call centers. No assistants. When you message EcuaPass on WhatsApp, I respond — usually within hours. I'm the person who reviews your documents, attends your immigration appointment, and follows up on your processing status.
I've done this myself.
I didn't study Ecuador's visa system from a textbook. I sat in the SENESCYT office in Azogues. I waited at immigration in Cuenca. I figured out what works and what doesn't by going through it. Every shortcut I know, every mistake I help you avoid — I learned firsthand.
Document accuracy is everything.
Six years in mortgage taught me that one wrong form, one missing apostille, one incorrectly dated document can derail an entire application. I review every document before it goes to immigration. Nothing gets submitted until it's right.
I'm here.
I live in Cuenca. I know the immigration office, the Registro Civil, the SENESCYT office in Azogues, the notaries, the translators. I'm not managing your visa from Miami. When something needs to happen in person, I'm already here.
I follow up relentlessly.
Government offices don't move on their own. I check status, I call, I email, I escalate when needed. Your application doesn't sit in limbo because I don't let it.
