The degree was only the beginning
My computer science degree from Western Governors University is part of why the Ecuador Professional Visa became personal for me. I learned that saying “I have a degree” is not the same as showing an Ecuadorian authority the exact credential, institution, field, study modality, and supporting records it needs to evaluate.
That distinction shaped the way I built EcuaPass. Applicants do not need more confidence than their documents support. They need a clear answer about what is ready, what is uncertain, and what to verify next.
What I had to understand
The Professional Visa route can depend on a foreign degree and SENESCYT recognition or registration. The academic record, the institution, the program, and the document chain all matter. An online degree label does not decide the outcome by itself, and neither does a school name.
I went through SENESCYT registration with my degree. That experience made the document sequence concrete: obtain the right records, understand authentication and translation, respond to agency questions, and keep the visa file separate from the academic-recognition file.
The current SENESCYT guidance and Professional Visa procedure control today. My experience is a starting point, not a guarantee that another WGU credential or another institution will be treated the same way.
Why I start with documents
When someone asks whether an online degree is valid, I do not want to answer with a blanket yes or no. I want to see the exact credential and the records behind it. The useful questions are:
- What degree was awarded, and by which institution?
- What field and level does the record show?
- How can the institution verify it?
- What does the current SENESCYT process ask for?
- What income, identity, background, and family evidence belongs in the visa file?
Those questions apply whether the route is Professional, Digital Nomad, or another category. A degree can be relevant without being the only route.
What this means for another applicant
Do not copy my documents or assume my sequence is yours. Start with the live procedure, collect the exact credential records, and separate what is known from what still needs agency confirmation.
