Before booking a retirement move to Ecuador, organize four things: the income evidence you can obtain, the document steps still to confirm, your housing plan, and the help you actually need. This checklist is a planning worksheet. Your visa category’s current official instructions determine the application requirements.

Open the free printable worksheet. No email is required. Fill it in on paper; keep personal records in your own secure folder.

1. Write down the move you are planning

  • Who is moving, and who may join later?
  • What is your preferred departure month?
  • Is there a fixed house closing or lease end date?
  • Where could you stay if your move needs to be delayed?
  • Which Ecuador city are you considering, and have you visited?

If your home sale is the fixed date, read selling your house before your Ecuador visa is approved before tying that date to a flight.

2. Locate your pension evidence

Identify the agency or pension administrator, the type of payment, and the official evidence you can access. Record any questions about names, payment amounts, deductions, or whether the letter explains the benefit clearly.

For Social Security, the SSA benefit-letter page provides a PDF option and an automated telephone option. You do not need to become a computer expert to start organizing the task. If someone helps with the website, keep control of your password and sign-in codes.

Use the benefit-letter preparation guide for the next questions. Different benefit programs can raise different eligibility questions; having an SSA letter does not establish Ecuador visa eligibility by itself.

3. Confirm the document chain before spending

For each record on your case-specific checklist, identify:

Task Record in your tracker
Obtain the record Issuer, correct format, request date, and expected next update
Confirm authentication Authority responsible and instructions for this exact record
Arrange translation Required scope, format, and provider quote
Review the file Missing pages, name differences, readability, and open questions
Prepare for submission Confirmed next action and who is responsible

A federal record and a state-issued record may follow different authentication paths. The US Department of State’s apostille instructions distinguish these procedures and warn against notarizing a federal original. Confirm the correct path for your document rather than copying another applicant’s notarization instructions.

Do not write identity numbers, bank details, or account passwords on a general planning sheet. Store the actual records securely and use the private intake process when a purchased service requests documents.

4. Keep preparation and travel on separate calendars

Track document tasks on one calendar and housing or travel commitments on another. Mark which dates are confirmed, estimated, or still unknown. Add reminders to check official notices through the proper channel.

Before deciding to enter Ecuador while the case is pending, ask how your nationality, entry history, application location, and intended stay affect the plan. Use the official instructions for your situation. Do not assume an extension or an approval simply because another retiree received one.

Set aside a housing and travel contingency based on your own quotes. Your preparation worksheet should still work if a document needs to be replaced or the decision takes longer than expected.

5. Choose how much help to buy

Your situation Next step
You want a brief starting direction Free fit check
You need a personalized route and preparation sequence $99 written Visa Plan
You already have documents and want them checked $199 Document Review
You want preparation, authorized submission, and routine follow-up Managed Application Support, from $799

Read the service scope before purchasing. Government and third-party fees are separate. The free worksheet does not include personalized eligibility advice or document review.

Before you book: five final questions

  1. Can I explain what is complete and what is still pending?
  2. Have I confirmed the document format before paying for the next step?
  3. Do I know where I will stay if my preferred departure date changes?
  4. Have I checked the travel and status questions that apply to me?
  5. Does each open task have an owner and a next action?

If the answers are unclear, bring those questions to a free fit check, or see the written Visa Plan for a personal roadmap. The retiree services page compares the available levels of help.
