One household does not always mean one application
Families often want one simple answer: choose the strongest applicant and bring everyone through that route. The practical answer is more careful. A primary applicant may anchor dependent applications, but each person still has an identity record, relationship evidence, and current procedure to satisfy.

Choose the primary route around the strongest evidence
The primary applicant should be the person whose route is easiest to document accurately, not necessarily the oldest person or the person who plans to work. A degree may point to the Professional Visa. Stable pension records may point to the Retirement Visa. Foreign work evidence may point to the Digital Nomad route.
Do not choose a primary route only because its headline income figure looks lower. The route also carries document, recognition, authentication, and timing questions.
Map the family file separately
Create one folder or manifest per person. Then add a household table showing:
- passport and identity details;
- marriage, birth, or other relationship record;
- apostille or legalization status;
- Spanish translation status;
- background or civil records;
- the primary applicant's approval or route evidence; and
- the next deadline for each person.
This prevents a common mistake: treating a spouse or child as an attachment to the primary file rather than as a separate applicant with a separate record.
Plan the sequence before booking the move
If the dependent application relies on the primary applicant's visa or status, the family may need to work in sequence. That creates a gap between the primary decision and the dependent submissions. Build buffer for that gap, for document validity, and for any correction request.
The primary applicant's approval does not erase the dependent's responsibility to provide a readable passport, relationship record, and any other document the current procedure requests. Make a separate checklist for each family member and keep a shared calendar only for dependencies between applications. That way, one missing birth certificate does not disappear inside the primary applicant's folder.
Do not make a travel plan that assumes the whole family receives a decision on the same day. Read the current dependent instructions and ask what event allows the next application to begin.
