In brief

Understand the remote-work and income evidence commonly used for Ecuador's Digital Nomad Visa, plus the documents to verify in the current eVISAS checklist.

The Short Answer

Ecuador's Digital Nomad Visa is intended for people performing qualifying remote work connected to clients, employers, or business activity outside Ecuador. An income total by itself does not explain the legal basis for the work, so a good application connects three things clearly:

  1. the foreign remote-work relationship or business;
  2. the income generated through that relationship; and
  3. the supporting documents requested by the current eVISAS procedure.

EcuaPass currently uses $1,446 per month as the 2026 planning threshold, corresponding to three times Ecuador's $482 unified basic salary (SBU). Because visa criteria and evidence instructions can change, verify the amount and document list inside eVISAS before relying on an article or ordering an apostille.

Do not rely on bank deposits alone. Statements may support the income portion of the case, but unexplained deposits do not by themselves establish who you work for, what work you perform, or whether the work fits the category.

Evidence to Organize

Question the application must answer Examples of supporting evidence Review point
Who is the foreign employer, client, or business? Contract, engagement agreement, employer letter, or business registration Names and entities should be consistent across the file
Is the work ongoing and performed remotely? Description of services, role, duration, renewal terms, or remote-work confirmation A completed one-off project may not show continuing activity
Does the income meet the current threshold? Contract compensation and supporting account statements or business records Income should connect to the documented work basis
Are foreign public documents properly authenticated? Apostille or applicable legalization for the issuing country Confirm which documents require this before ordering it
Is health coverage required for this case? Policy wording and geographic coverage Confirm the current eVISAS checklist and policy period

This is an organizing framework, not a substitute for the portal's live category checklist. The authority may ask for a different document, clarification, correction, or additional evidence based on the case.

Employment and Contractor Cases

An employee or independent contractor should be prepared to document the foreign party, the ongoing relationship, the services, and compensation. A signed agreement is normally more useful than a collection of invoices because it connects the work and the income in one document.

Review the agreement for:

  • the full legal names of both parties;
  • the foreign entity's location;
  • a description of the remote work;
  • compensation and payment frequency;
  • the term or ongoing nature of the relationship; and
  • signatures or other required execution formalities.

Whether the agreement requires an apostille, certification, or another authentication step depends on the document and issuing country. Do not assume every private contract follows the same apostille procedure. Confirm the current instruction first.

Freelancer and Business-Owner Cases

Freelancers without a single long-term client often need a clearer paper trail. A formally documented foreign business, client agreements, invoices, and business-account history can help show where the work and income come from. The key is consistency: business names, client names, dates, and deposits should tell the same story.

Some applications may require a longer history than others. If your case depends on business records, check the current eVISAS evidence period before assuming that three, six, or twelve months will be accepted. A personal account receiving transfers from many sources is harder to evaluate when it is not paired with contracts or business records.

Platform and Creator Income

Upwork, Fiverr, tutoring platforms, ad revenue, subscriptions, and creator payments may show that money arrives, but the application still needs a documented work basis. Keep platform terms, account ownership evidence, payment reports, contracts where available, and matching bank records. Do not create a business or restructure accounts solely because an old article claimed a particular format was guaranteed to work; confirm the current category requirements first.

Cryptocurrency gains, trading profits, and investment returns do not necessarily demonstrate remote employment or service activity. Other Documents and the Online Process

Income evidence is only one part of the file. The current procedure may also request identity documents, criminal records, health coverage, and category-specific evidence. Foreign public documents may need an apostille or the authentication process applicable to their country, and non-Spanish documents may need an accepted translation.

Ecuador's Foreign Ministry describes eVISAS as a fully online service available from anywhere. Apply through the current online system rather than planning an outdated in-person submission trip. Monitor the portal and the application email for correction or information requests.

There is no guaranteed approval or processing time. Document preparation, government review, correction requests, and post-approval identity steps each vary. See the 2026 visa timeline guide for a planning framework.

Digital Nomad Visa or Another Category?

The best category follows the evidence you genuinely have, not the label that sounds most like your lifestyle.

If Digital Nomad is the right route, EcuaPass can review how your work and income documents fit together, prepare the application, and support routine follow-up. Start the intake for a case-specific checklist.
