Frequently asked question

Can I leave Ecuador while my temporary visa is processing?

Updated 2026-07-30Reviewed by EcuaPass team

You should not leave Ecuador while a visa application is actively under review unless you have confirmed with Cancillería that your absence will not affect the process. If you entered on a tourist stamp and your tourist period expires while the visa is pending, leaving and re-entering can create complications. Once your temporary visa is approved, you can travel, but you must respect the physical presence rules: no more than 90 consecutive days outside Ecuador in any 12-month period during the temporary residency phase. Track your travel days carefully.
