Check nationality-based routes before choosing an income-based visa
If you are Colombian and planning to live in Ecuador, start by comparing the Andean and MERCOSUR residence routes. Owning a business, working remotely, or receiving investment income does not mean a digital nomad or investor visa must be your first choice.
Ecuador's Foreign Ministry lists both MERCOSUR and Estatuto Migratorio Andino among its temporary residence categories. These are distinct procedures. Ask which one fits your nationality, documents, family, and longer-term plans before ordering paperwork.

Include the Andean route in your comparison
The Foreign Ministry's Andean residency announcement identifies Colombians, Peruvians, and Bolivians as eligible nationalities for this framework in Ecuador. It describes temporary residence of up to two years and a separate permanent-residence process.
The published Andean application procedure lists identity and background evidence, lawful means of support, and a written intention to establish residence. It currently lists a $50 application charge and no visa issuance charge. Confirm the current checklist, fees, and payment instructions in the official process before submitting; this is not the total cost of preparing a family's documents.
Keep MERCOSUR on the shortlist
Read the EcuaPass MERCOSUR guide alongside the official MERCOSUR procedure. The government's published requirements include a valid passport, a photograph, applicable adult background records, lawful means of support, and any additional evidence requested for the case.
Do not reduce the financial review to a round monthly number copied from a conversation. Identify the applicable rule and show where the support comes from. A transfer between your own accounts is not, by itself, proof of new income.
Put the family on one planning sheet
Create one row per person: nationality or nationalities, travel document, intended route, document readiness, and target arrival. Then identify which applications depend on another person's approved status.
For a child with qualifying nationality, ask about an independent nationality-based application as well as sponsorship. Do not assume that every child needs a dependent visa, or that a child must open a personal bank account before you can compare options.
