About These Estimates

These figures are based on 2026 data from expats living in Ecuador, including my own experience living in Cuenca on ~$750/month (yes, really — monk mode is possible here) to friends spending $4,000+/month in luxury.

The key insight: Ecuador doesn't have a single cost of living. A couple in Cuenca spending $2,000/month lives very comfortably — nice apartment, eating out regularly, private healthcare, taxis everywhere. That same $2,000 in most US cities barely covers rent.

For visa purposes, you need to prove income, not savings. The Professional Visa requires just $482/month. The Pensioner and Rentista visas require $1,446/month. Your actual spending can be higher or lower than these thresholds — the visa only cares about provable income.
